Why Premium and sponsor skippers are different

YouTube controls the ad slots it serves around a video. A creator controls the footage and narration uploaded as the video. When a sponsorship is part of that footage, Premium cannot simply remove it like a platform ad slot.

YouTube's own Help documentation says Premium viewers may still get sponsorship disclosures for content added directly by creators. That is why a Premium video can still pause for a product pitch halfway through a tutorial or podcast.

What Premium does remove

Premium is the official solution for ads served by YouTube and includes other subscription benefits. It is not marketed as a detector for creator-read sponsor passages.

How to skip the sponsorship inside the video

You can seek manually, use community timestamps, or use AI detection. SponsorSkip analyzes available captions through its backend and returns sponsor timestamps to the Chrome extension.

SponsorSkip never skips while YouTube's player is in its native ad state. It is complementary to Premium or an ad blocker, not a replacement for either.

The short version

YouTube Premium: YouTube-served ads. SponsorSkip: creator-read sponsor segments. If both types of interruption matter to you, they require two different tools.
