Option 1: Firefox for Android with SponsorBlock

Firefox is one of the few Android browsers that supports full add-ons, and the official SponsorBlock add-on is marked as available for Firefox for Android.

  1. Install Firefox from Google Play.
  2. Open the menu, choose Add-ons, find SponsorBlock and add it.
  3. Open youtube.com in Firefox. If it redirects you to the app, long-press the link or turn off opening links in apps.
  4. Set the Sponsor category to skip automatically in SponsorBlock's options.
Chrome on Android doesn't support extensions

Chrome for Android has no extension support, so neither SponsorBlock nor SponsorSkip can run there.

Option 2: Jump ahead in the YouTube app

With YouTube Premium, double-tap to fast forward or touch and hold the video, and a Jump ahead button can take you to the point most viewers skip to. It doesn't know what a sponsor is and doesn't appear on every video.

What happened to ReVanced and Tubular?

Two names come up in almost every older guide, and both have changed. When we checked on October 8, 2026, GitHub showed a DMCA block on the ReVanced patches repository, and Tubular, a NewPipe fork that added SponsorBlock, was archived, meaning no further updates.

Modified YouTube apps also patch Google's app and are installed from outside the Play Store, which brings account and malware risks. If you use one, get it only from the project's official source and accept that it may stop working.

Can SmartTube be used on a phone?

No. SmartTube has SponsorBlock built in, but it is made for Android TV boxes and TVs. Its developer states that phones and tablets are not supported.

And SponsorSkip?

SponsorSkip is a desktop Chrome extension and doesn't run on Android. If you also watch on a computer, it covers the sponsor reads in videos nobody has marked yet; on your phone, Firefox with SponsorBlock is the practical choice today.
